Originally inhabited by at least 16 different indigenous tribes. Yungaburra became a stopover for miners and ultimately a European settlement. Formally established in 1910. Many of Yungaburra’s heritage-listed buildings from those early years remain, for the most part, unchanged.

An abundance of wildlife

There is so much to see and do in this small town. Check out the wildlife and nature. Pack a picnic, and enjoy one of the beautiful walking tracks.

Yungaburra inspires nature lovers every day by connecting people with wildlife. There is no shortage of birds with over 350 species recorded, making it a bird-lovers paradise.

The Wet Tropics area also boasts the highest number of possums in Australia. Many of which can be spotted in Yungaburra. With any luck, you may even run across the rare Lumholtz tree-kangaroo. Sneak up and watch platypus splash and play from a platform built just for this purpose.

Also, check out the massive Curtain Fig Tree. One of the biggest attractions on the Atherton Tablelands. Only a few minutes from Yungaburra.
