There’s nothing better than a magnificent view of the tropical rainforest, and that’s what the Atherton Tablelands Waterfalls and surrounds offer.
Waterfalls
You can’t visit the Atherton Tablelands without doing the waterfall circuit! Each of the waterfalls is a classic cascade and unique in its way. You will marvel as they leap from the cliffs and plunge into the darkness of the pools below.
They offer a place to soak your body and purify your mind after a long hike on gorgeous rainforest trails. Below are a few of our favourites we believe are unmissable.
Millaa Millaa Falls

By far the most popular of all the Atherton Tablelands Waterfalls. A favourite with tourists wanting to get that perfect photo to make all their friends at home envious. Surrounded by stunning rainforest, the water cascades down into a beautiful waterhole. Perfect for a dip to cool off.
Located close to Millaa Millaa. A truly breathtaking place. The tallest at 90 metres. Arguably the most impressive. The perfect place for a swim, with natural swimming pools above and below the falls.
Zillie Falls

Regarded by some as the most beautiful. You can have a birds-eye view from the viewing platform on the waterfall circuit. It can be wet and slippery getting down to the bottom of the falls here. So only those with a certain level of fitness should attempt to do so.
Ellinjaa Falls

Thunders over a series of lava columns. You will enjoy a walk through the surrounding rainforest, where you will emerge at the base of these epic falls.
Mungalli Falls

Dinner Falls
Found in the Mount Hypipamee National Park. You will tick two spectacular locations off your list in one place. Mount Hypipamee is a crater lake with solid granite walls rising 58 metres above the surface. An awe-inspiring sight.
Keep an eye out for the Southern Cassowary and Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo. You can find both unique species in this fantastic location.
Malanda Falls
Malanda falls are on the North Johnstone River. The falls cascade over basalt rock formed by an ancient lava flow spread from the Mount Hypipamee area. Sandy beaches at the lower end of the pool make it an excellent place for children to enjoy a paddle.
You can also go deeper into the Malanda Falls rainforest and see it through the eyes of the local Ngadjon people on the Rainforest Dreaming guided walk. An ideal educational excursion for all the family.
Millstream Falls
Millstream Falls is three kilometres from the township of Ravenshoe. Big Millstream Falls is by all accounts the widest single-drop waterfall in Australia. You can get there on the paved walking track to view these magnificent falls and the open woodland vegetation.
Win Din Falls

How to get to Win Din Falls
Take a left hand turn into Topaz Road between Lake Eacham and Malanda. Drive for 7.5 kilometres, turn left at the old Cairns track, continue straight on as the road becomes a single lane track, and Gourka Road veers to the right 4WD is recommended as the track can be quite boggy in the wet. The following 4 kilometres is an access road. The road is rough; about 4.75 kilometres later, at a fork in the track, turn right, 250 metres look for an arrow that has been carved into a tree marking the path that leads down to the falls.
The tree is estimated to be over 500 years old and is an impressive sight.
