Atherton Tablelands Weather
Atherton Tablelands weather can be several degrees cooler than Cairns.
The elevated Atherton Tablelands enjoy a temperate year-round climate free of the coastal humidity.
It’s cold for about half the year and otherwise beautifully pleasant with a meagre chance of rain.
The northern part of the region has cool, dry winters and warm, wet summers.
In winter, minimum daily temperatures rarely fall below 15ºC (59ºF), and maximum daily summer temperatures rarely exceed 35ºC (95ºF).
Atherton Tablelands rainfall
Rainfall is much higher in the south, and some areas attract some of Australia’s highest annual falls.
Temperatures are also lower, ranging from 17ºC and 25ºC (62º – 77ºF) from September to June and between 5ºC and 14ºC (41º – 57ºF) from July to August.
Summer (December – February)
Rain usually falls from December to March and can even continue through to April in this annual ‘green season.’
The tropical rains revitalise plants and animals which suffer from stress in extended dry seasons.
It is a suitable time of year to experience the magic and colour of tropical rainforests and spectacular waterfalls. The average high is between 30°C (87°F) and 20°C (69°F).
Autumn (March-May)
Humidity and temperatures combine to moderate this season’s weather. Highs vary from 27.6°C (81.6°F) to 6.5°C (43.7°F).
After the summer rains, all is getting greener, the skies are clearer, and the colourful sunsets are stunning.
Winter (June – August)
The clear blue skies deliver crisp nights, and there is drizzle and early morning frost in some southern areas.
The night skies are perfect for stargazing, and a wood fire beckons. Increasingly higher temperatures make life more comfortable.
The cool season throws average daily high temperatures under 25°C (77°F).
Spring (September – November)
The night skies can light up by afternoon storms that breeze through from November on their way down to the coast. Spring daily highs range from 29.8°C (85.6°F) to 9.3°C (48.7°F),
No daylight saving time
Daylight saving is not observed in Queensland, so the time zone in Atherton Tablelands is Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), UTC +10.
Ultraviolet (UV) Index
Visitors should check the UV index in local weather reports when visiting Atherton Tablelands. The index describes the daily solar UV radiation intensity.
Next, stop by the highest town in Queensland, Ravenshoe, and see Millstream Falls.
