“Nandroya Falls is earned — a proper walk through rainforest, a descent that builds anticipation, and then water of a scale that makes the effort feel like the smallest price.”
Nandroya Falls: A Beautiful Reward Deep in the Wooroonooran National Park
Nandroya Falls is one of the most spectacular waterfalls on the Atherton Tablelands — a double cascade in the Wooroonooran National Park that drops through magnificent old-growth rainforest into a series of pools below. It is not the easiest waterfall to reach, requiring a genuine walk of several kilometres through forest terrain, but the experience of arriving at the falls is entirely proportionate to the effort.
The walk to Nandroya Falls begins from the Henrietta Creek camping area and follows the creek through a forest of remarkable character — ancient fig trees, lawyer cane, and a canopy that closes overhead to create a green, filtered light that feels like being inside the forest rather than simply walking through it. The sound of the falls, when it reaches you, is significant — a deep, sustained roar that tells you the scale of what you’re approaching before you can see it.
The falls themselves are a double cascade — two separate falls dropping over separate rock faces into the pool below, with the combined effect of a very large amount of water arriving in a relatively contained space. Swimming is possible and wonderful in appropriate conditions. The surrounding pool area is one of the most beautiful natural settings in the national park.
Nandroya Falls can be combined with nearby Tchupala Falls in a longer walk from the same trailhead. Allow a full day if you’re doing both falls and want time to swim and rest. Strong walking shoes, plenty of water, and a camera are all essential.
A Hot Getaways destination. Where Care is Our Compass.
Travel Kindly
At Hot Getaways, care is our compass — and a little kindness makes every journey better. When you visit the Atherton Tablelands, we gently ask you to:
- Tread lightly — stay on tracks and lookouts, and take special care around waterfalls, which can be slippery and swift.
- Respect the wildlife — never feed the platypus, tree-kangaroos or birds, and observe them quietly from a distance.
- Support local — choosing local operators, cafés and guides helps this beautiful place thrive.
- Honour Country — we travel on the traditional lands and sea Country of Australia’s First Peoples, with gratitude and respect to the Traditional Custodians past and present.
- Be kind to each other — a smile, a little patience and a helping hand make the day lovelier for everyone.
Small acts of care add up to something wonderful. Thank you for travelling kindly.
