The Kuranda Army Duck Experience is certainly the best way to explore the Rainforest. You will enjoy stunning views of the rainforests from different levels. Kuranda Scenic Rail

To begin with, you will travel to Kuranda by the Scenic Train. The Wet Tropics rainforest in far north Queensland is one of the oldest on the planet. This lush green paradise is home to many plant varieties and strange critters. The famous Kuranda Scenic Railway weaves its way from Cairns to Kuranda, “The Village in the Rainforest”. Travelling past beautiful waterfalls and through the breathtaking Barron Gorge. You will certainly manage to snap some great pictures!

The construction of the Cairns-Kuranda Railway was a massive triumph. This part of North Queensland’s history pays tribute to the goals, courage, and suffering of the many men who helped build it. Also, it serves as a memorial to the many workers who died while building the rail line.

Rainforestation

Experience the tropical rainforest from a whole new view on board an amphibious World War II Army Duck, also known as a DUKW. The Kuranda Army Duck is one of the most innovative vehicles in military history. It was developed to help deliver crucial supplies to stranded soldiers. Army Ducks are made for both land as well as water. For this reason, they are perfect for rescue attempts in natural disasters such as floods. These amphibious Ducks are still in use today, although mostly as tourist transport. In fact, at Rainforestation in Kuranda, you will find the largest fleet of Army Ducks in Australia!

During this 45-minute rainforest trip, your experienced Army Duck Captain will point out flora and animals as you pass by. Sooner or later the Duck will dip into the lake for a wildlife-viewing cruise. After your cruise, pay a visit to the tropical fruit orchard. Take a walk through the orchard where you can find over 60 types of exotic tropical fruit trees. Here you can learn all about regional and international fruits.

Skyrail Rainforest Cableway

Wrap up your Army Duck experience by joining the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. Your gondola will take you across the treetops of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. This area is home to the world’s longest continuously surviving tropical rainforest.

With two mid-stations along the way, you could also join a walk with a park ranger for one of the boardwalk tours. Hear their passion for the rainforest and learn about this ancient environment. By all means, the ranger will bring the rainforest’s history to life!

The Edge Lookout provides clear views of the spectacular Barron Falls and Gorge. While you are here, pay a visit to the CSIRO Rainforest Interpretation Centre. Here you can find interactive touch screens and audiovisual displays. During your time here, you can find plenty of information on flora and creatures found nowhere else on Earth.
